Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources has launched the Women in Industry Non-Profit Association, a new initiative to empower women and increase their participation in the Kingdom’s industrial sector.
The announcement coincides with International Day of Women in Industry, highlighting the nation’s commitment to fostering gender equality and promoting women’s contributions to the industry.
Further, this move comes as part of the ministry’s efforts to empower non-profit organizations in the industry and mining sectors, recognizing their role in supporting the Kingdom’s economic and social development.
The association aims to strengthen women’s presence in the industrial sector by launching initiatives to develop their capabilities and prepare them for industrial professions, empowering female leadership talent, and enhancing coordination and communication with decision-makers to address challenges facing women in the sector.
The association will work to raise awareness of opportunities for women in the future of the industry and conduct supportive studies and research to help create a diverse and inclusive environment that develops women’s potential and strengthens their participation.
It will also build partnerships with local and international academic institutions to foster female talent, align university outcomes with labor market needs, and enhance the presence of Saudi women at local and international industrial events.
International Day of Women in Industry
Observed annually on April 21, the International Day of Women in Industry (IDWI) celebrates the vital contributions of women to industrial development and advocates for a more inclusive and equitable future within the global industry.
Proclaimed by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) during the Global Industry Summit 2025 in Riyadh, the day aims to promote inclusive industrial growth by breaking down barriers in technology and manufacturing and encouraging greater participation by women in digital, green, and high-tech roles.
The date also holds special significance as it marks the anniversary of the entry into force of UNIDO’s first Gender Policy in 2009, reaffirming the organization’s ongoing commitment to gender equality.
