Qatar Ministry of Interior has urged the public to verify information before sharing, stressing the importance of avoiding the circulation or publication of false AI-generated videos and news from unreliable sources on social media platforms.
The Qatar ministry underscored the critical importance of verifying information before sharing it, stressing that the unchecked circulation of false AI-generated videos and misleading news could have serious consequences.
Furthermore, the ministry warned that these actions could not only jeopardize public safety but also lead to widespread panic and confusion, ultimately eroding trust and destabilizing the community.
In a statement on X, the Qatar Ministry emphasized that spreading false rumors or misleading content is a legal offense that demands accountability. It urged the public to rely solely on official sources for accurate information and to use social media responsibly to promote security and stability.
Governments across the GCC have begun to collaborate on a unified approach to regulating AI-generated content and deepfakes on social media. The initiative includes cross-border cooperation to track and remove misleading or harmful content, particularly that created using AI technologies.
Recently, the UAE Cyber Security Council has warned the public about the increasing spread of artificial intelligence-generated videos that may appear highly realistic but could be misleading.
In a statement shared across its official social media platforms, the council urged individuals to ‘Pause and Verify’ the authenticity of any video content before engaging with or sharing it. It emphasized the importance of relying solely on official and trusted sources to ensure the information’s accuracy.
