Qatar’s own Hamad International Airport (HIA) and associated shopping initiative Qatar Duty-Free (QDF) have been rated as “Best Airport Voted for by Millennials” and “Best Airport Retail Environment” respectively at the Travel Retail Awards 2020.

Both HIA and QDF were awarded the honors after a survey conducted among 5,000 passengers who had traveled within the past six months voted on 61 international airports and their associated facilities from every region across the globe.

Among the 7 finalists, Qatar’s international airport and premium duty-free shopping experience was chosen for its local identity, shopping environment, and food and beverage offers.

With traveling passengers at its heart, the Hamad International Airport has been the most preferred airport by Millennials.  Qatar Duty-Free is also expected to introduce a slew of offers and enhanced shopping experiences to its patrons in the coming months.

Even as airports and facilities across the globe have struggled to innovate and invest amid the pandemic, HIA has set new standards by adding another 40,000 square meters of shopping and dining experiences operated by QDF.

Staying ahead of the curve

With robotic sanitization, advanced thermal screening helmets, and paperless air travel supported by facial biometric identification, Hamad International Airport has always ensured that it’s offerings provide safety and security higher than any mandated international standards.

Qatar Duty-Free has also ensured that it adapts wit the dynamic changes in policies and measures amid the pandemic with cashless and contactless transactions through cards with further investments being made to facilitate in-app and online purchases to ensure that there is no chance for possible cross-contamination in passengers.
